DOWNLOAD 2010 - 30TH ANNIVERSARY DONINGTON LINE UP

RAINBOW
JUDAS PRIEST
SCORPIONS
APRIL WINE
SAXON
RIOT
TOUCH

all to play at next years "Classic Rock" Sunday at 2010!

Rainbow
will reform with as close to the 'classic' line up as possible - the fans' favourite - rather than the line up that actually headlined the 1st ever Monsters of Rock.
Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Bob Daisley (Bass), David Stone (keyboards), drums unknown yet to replace the sadly missed Cozy Powell.

Judas Priest
have already successfully reformed with Rob Halford a couple of years ago.

Scorpions
continue to tour with key members Rudi Schenker, Klaus Meine and Matthias Jabs.

April Wine
are still together and recording and were inducted in the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame this year.

Saxon
are still touring with frontman Biff Byford at the helm despite a major fall out with two founders several years ago and a subsequent Oliver/Dawson 'Saxon' spin off band. Lots of law suits, lots of money spent in making rich lawyers even richer!

Riot
founder and guitarist Mark Reale will need to find a new singer to replace original singer Guy Speranza who sadly died of pancreatic cancer in 2003.

Original openers Touch,
one of whose members allegedly swallowed a bee during the original 1980 set(!) will also need to reform with Mark Mangold (keyboards and songwriter) and Glen Kithcart etc.

(wouldn't it be superb if all of the above was true......!!!!)

Dream Theater were there this year and were excellent. The whole point of this post was to 'celebrate' the 30th anniversary of the very FIRST Monsters Of Rock in 1980 - hence the original line up. Now that Download (I still prefer MOR Donington!) is a three day event, there's plenty of room for new bands and other acts like those you've all listed. Sunday was called the 'classic rock' day this year and my suggestion was for the 'classic rock' day to celebrate the 30th anniversary with the likes of Rainbow, Judas Priest, Saxon, Scorpions, April Wine, Riot and Touch. Of if only the promoters were reading this...!!!

I think that all of them are pretty decent bands, but I'm easy going. It is all personal preference though.
I'm just hoping that it'll be a great time!

[I agree with the Symphony X thing though - saw them with Dream Theater a while ago and they were awesome!]

I was at the original MOR event back in 1980. I can't believe it was 30 years ago already ! I reckon it would be awesome to get the original line up back to celebrate. I still remember Ritchie Blackmores and Cozy's respective solo's. They were the days.

You could always put on a fur coat, big wig, bad glasses and bank roll the gig yourself with a fist full of readies and a cheep cigar.

Venue - few hundred thousand pounds
Ticket sales - commission only
Bands, one hundred thousand pounds for Judas Priest (if the gig goes ahead), maybe 20,000 for Ritchie, then throw in a few ticket sales commission to pay for each acts stage and equipment cost etc. The other acts can shoot a reunion DVD at no cost to make it financially interesting for them. (tell them the short fall will be made back on LP record sales in the stores)
Advertising budget, this is important at least 100,000 pounds, a few ads in Kerrang and a solid tv campaign during the football to reach the dads should work out.
Security - not much required for this line up, the police also attend spontaneous acts of biffo if you ring em on the day.

Be sure to book the venue in your wife's name, you just declare her bankrupt when it flops.
